Crap. This means I’m going to have to try and read the truly terribly written A Game of Thrones again: HBO has picked up the adaptation of George RR Martin’s fantasy epic for at least one full season, ordering nine episodes plus the already shot pilot.

I was in Ireland last year near where A Game of Thrones was being shot and the buzz on it was through the roof, at least in terms of the look and the production design. Directed by Tom McCarthy and stars Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and more. In other words the show’s pedigree is much higher than the novels, which as a series are called A Song of Ice and Fire.

Production begins this summer in Ireland, with a Spring 2011 airdate planned. Between this and Martin Scorsese’s Boardwalk Empire, it looks HBO is once again interested in giving me what I wanted when I subscribed to their channel – excellent, well made TV series.
