The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights, an Emmett Malloy documentary following the group’s 2007 Icky Thump tour, will be hitting all kinds of ways on March 16th. Along with a DVD release, the band has a webpage up encouraging and helping to organize simultaneous fan screenings, with even more screenings at theaters across the nation. There’s also a pretty intense box set with DVDs and Vinyl versions of live performances that can be found on the site.

See the trailer here.

The documentary certainly looks intriguing and it should have plenty of interesting material to mine from- the Icky Thump tour ended prematurely when Meg White began suffering from anxiety attacks and the group cancelled 18 shows and a UK leg. While in full swing though, the tour was a unique beast- a show in every single province of Canada, peppered with secret shows in small venues like bowling alleys, and …buses*.

If you can’t catch a screening at one of the AMCs or other random theaters hosting showings, the group is offering a special kit for hosting your own (which they prefer you hold along with everyone else on the 16th), along with a prize element.

“A Screening Kit comes with The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights DVD, Popcorn, and Peppermint Swirl Candy.

…The goal is to be creative. We’ll be awarding prizes to the screenings that send us photos of the most creative screenings!”

So order up your own Kit, or check here for a theatrical party near you**.

“There’s no MESSAGE BOARD for you here, girl, go away. There’s no MESSAGE BOARD for you here.”

**I’m going to miss out because the Savannah screening is a few days too late, and the Atlanta show is a few days too early. Go enjoy one for me.”
