Great news, cult film fans! The Troll 2 documentary Best Worst Movie is finally getting a theatrical release!
They’ve just signed a distribution deal with Area23A, the event-based film distribution company. They are the guys that released Anvil! The Story of Anvil to great success (I managed to catch Anvil playing twice because of it!), and plan on bringing Best Worst Movie/Troll 2 parties to your town.
They are coming first to the big three markets (Austin, LA and NYC) this Spring, and will roll out to more cities afterwards. I’d implore you to go see this one when it hits so more people can see it in theaters, because it’s such a damn entertaining film and really should be seen with a group. One of the reasons it works so well is that the director of the film, Michael Paul Stephenson, is probably best known as the child star of Troll 2. So there’s a personal connection there that you don’t get in many docs, and he uses it to his complete advantage, grabbing interviews with nearly all the cast and crew of this bizarre cult hit.
I’m really excited that people will finally get a chance to see this great film. I loved it, Devin loved it, and it makes for a great double feature with its source material- the inimitable Troll 2. It’s possible that the sheer badness of that film may have been outdone by The Room (now THAT would be a helluva double feature) but it’s still incredibly entertaining despite itself.
