This weekend was the press junket for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and there were driblets of news that came from the press conferences. Chief among them: Johnny Depp, despite showing hints of going rogue after Dick Cook left Disney, is all confirmed for Pirates the of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. “One thing that I found very reassuring was a very good conversation with Dick Cook,” Depp revealed. “[He] is someone who I admire greatly and, so yeah, that helped a lot. And also, knowing that we’re coming at it from a different angle at this point, with [director] Rob Marshall and totally new take, it’s a new story.”

That new story won’t involve Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley, though. “There’s no Keira or Orlando in there,” he said. “[But] I don’t know. I don’t think we’d ever throw too much Jack Sparrow in there. There will be a little bit of everybody.”

I’d argue that they’ve already thrown too much Jack Sparrow in there, so I don’t know why they would pull back at this point. And without the other two heroes in place it seems quite likely that Sparrow will be taking up all the slack. It’s about time he had a romance, after all, isn’t it?
