Would Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers in the upcoming Scott Pilgrim) and Joel Edgerton (Uncle Owen in the Star Wars prequels) being cast in the impending The Thing prequel make it any more palatable for you?
Well, whether or not you like it, the film is happening, and these are the leads. The Heat Vision Blog tells us that Winstead will play the heroine while Edgerton will play the MacReady clone.
Says the blog: Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.
What just occurred to me: will this be a period film? Will it be set in 1982? Will these characters reference The Empire Strikes Back? Will they make Edgerton deliver that dialogue in an attempt to be meta? Will Winstead have feathered hair?
Shooting starts in March in Toronto. I have the script to this fucker taking up hard drive space; maybe I should finally take a look at it.
