The bittersweet nostalgic look back at our youths movie can be a tricky business. All too often these films miss the mark completely, becoming either fashion fetish or trite bullshit because the filmmakers refuses to look at their youth through the clearest possible lenses. The hope is that Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, writers and directors of Cemetery Junction, can avoid that. That hope is not terribly bolstered by the new trailer. The most egregious offender is the use of All The Young Dudes, a terrible on the nose short hand signifier that I hope is only used in the trailer and doesn’t really get prominent placement in the movie.
