Just this Monday it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. had dropped out of his leading role in Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens, and we all soon wondered who they could possibly get to fill the role.
Collider dropped the scoop (that Variety promptly stole!) that the replacement might be none other than one Daniel Craig. He’s currently in negotiations for the role, which would presumably have him as the lead cowboy who teams up with the Native Americans he’s been battling to focus their fight on a more immediate threat to the world- alien invaders.
It’s certainly a very different choice for an actor. Would this mean that it would be a more serious take on some clearly very tongue-in-cheek source material, or would we finally see Craig in a campy role?
More as we hear it… expect Cowboys & Aliens to hit 2011.
