We told you the other day that Bryan Singer is returning to the X-Men universe with X-Men: First Class, a movie that’s about Cyclops’ attempt to get 10 million frequent flyer miles. Now talking with Variety Singer reveals some more aspects of the film, and what he’s hoping to do with it:

“This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn,” Singer said. “There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from ‘X-Men’ will figure into the plot, though I don’t want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.”

The question for me is whether or not they’re going to shoehorn Wolverine into this one, and I suspect they in fact will do just that.

So it’s going to be Magneto and Xavier in their 20s, and the X-Men as kids, so it’s all new casting. Who could the villain be? There’s a plethora of baddies in the X-Universe to choose from as the movies only skimmed the surface of the comics. It also sounds to me like Moira McTaggart will be making an appearance this time.

I’m sort of surprised they don’t just reboot the thing. I guess they’re going to do it like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was a period piece without making all that many references to the period.
