Two powerhouse animated franchises will be returning to the big screen this summer and new material for both have appeared on the web this week. Considering that the Shrek franchise has grossed over a billion dollars across three films, and Toy Story has cleared $850m in only two, you can expect both of these family film titans to be pushing themselves hard…

I hate to be predictably sycophantic/snide towards these franchises, but the track records speak for themselves.

LOVE | HATE

The Toy Story franchise revisited theaters this year to set the stage for a 3D capper to the trilogy, and while I was unable to make it to the multiplex in the short window they were out, it was by all accounts a successful rerelease. It’s not surprising that the intelligently conceived and meticulously detailed mise en scene of each film lent itself well to the retroactive 3D treatment and it promises to be a real delight to see a Toy Story flick composed for the third-dimension from the beginning.

A few shots from the new film have emerged in various spots across the internet- two show the whole gang traveling to and arriving at the Sunnyside Daycare center (which will become a nightmare quickly) and the other is a candid, and very caption-worthy moment between Jessie, Woody, and Buzz. I’m still waiting for a good idea of what Lotso the Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear will be like- Pixar hasn’t given much about him away (at least, since his cameo in the UP teaser).

You can see all three below and click on them for high-res versions at their respective sources (Empire, Aol, & /Film). Hmm, it would sure be a peach to have a still to premiere around these parts…

Enjoy!

“It’s your choice, Woody. Either you can go to the MESSAGE BOARD together or in pieces. He fixed you once, he can fix you again. Now get in the box.”
