Picture removed at the request of Warner Bros!

Here’s the rule I don’t think Hollywood marketing departments quite understand yet: your characters, monsters and other designs for big geek properties will be revealed by toys, book tie-ins and other promotional items if you don’t reveal them yourselves first. Such is the case when it comes to the face of Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street; while Warner Bros has been hiding Freddy’s kisser, a NECA toy photo gives the whole thing away. It gives the whole outfit away, in fact.

What do you think? I saw this make-up live and in person and thought it was delightfully realistic and unsettling. I’m not certain a toy photo is the best way for anyone to experience it the first time, but hey, that’s what happens with your geek properties these days.
