Paul McCartney got a chance to see an early screening of the upcoming Everybody’s Fine and came away so impressed that he felt compelled to write a song for the movie. He started work on it that night and the track (I Want To) Come Home is now in the film.
The film stars Robert De Niro as a widower who sets off on a road trip to connect with all of his grown children (Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell) after they don’t come home for Christmas. It looks like the kind of sappy, feel-good movie that everyone’s parents likes to watch around the holidays.
Says McCartney- “I could definitely identify with Robert De Niro’s character because I have grown-up kids who have their own families.”
It’s a pretty cool gesture from the man, but of course we all have to remember that his songwriting has been just a bit off in the last decade or so. (You have heard Freedom, right? It’s arguably a musical terrorist act. Never forget!)
