Chris Smith, director of such amazing documentaries as American Movie and Home Movie, has taken a dark turn. His new film Collapse is about the future, and it ain’t looking pretty. In it we hear the thoughts and fears of one Michael Ruppert, a former cop who had evidence that the CIA was involved in drug trafficking and was booted off the force, becoming an independent reporter and predicting the financial crisis in the process. Is he a prophet? A lunatic? Whatever he is, he sure makes for a compelling subject.
You can see for yourself in the fantastic trailer has just popped up online below and at Apple here. It looks much more like an Errol Morris doc than anything Smith has done before.
Collapse recently played at Toronto alongside Michael Moore’s truly flawed Capitalism: A Love Story, and it’s interesting to see their different takes on the same subject matter. I’m seeing the film tomorrow and should have a review for you folks as soon as possible, but you’ll be able to see it for yourself soon enough- Collapse will play at the Angelika in NYC (as well as on VOD!) starting November 6th.
