The remake pain falls mainly on the brain.

Keira Knightley has signed on to play Eliza Doolittle in a remake of My Fair Lady (itself a remake of Pygmalion*, but who’s counting?), the classic musical about a saucy lower class wench who learns the ways of the posh from snobby Professor Henry Higgins. According to the Telegraph it was between her and Scarlett Johansson, but Keira’s been taking singing lessons for a year and a half and Scarlett has a couple of albums of proof that she can’t sing.

The remake is being directed by Joe Wright, who directed Knightley to her best performance to date in Pride & Prejudice. Wright was supposed to direct a Cate Blanchett film, Indian Summer, that got canned by Universal last week for costing too much. That’s freed him up to step in and bring Knightley to her next Oscar nomination.
