As I said in a previous blog, I’ve fiercely gotten back into reading books. The first 4 books were novelizations, and now I’m onto a book that got turned into a film. The book was referred to as unfilmable. From what I’ve read so far, Naked Lunch would be the most expensive sci-fi hardcore porno ever.
First off the book appears at face value to be written by a bi-sexual, degenerate Gynecologist, and could very well be his memoirs while hopped up on a permanent junk high.
That’s not to say that the book is trash. I like it a lot. It’s like reading something Alejandro Jodorowsky would write. I’m almost half way through the book, and the one thing that continues to go through my mind is Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain. I bought the Jodorowsky box set last year during the Deep Discount fall sale, and had already heard much about El Topo and The Holy Mountain. El Topo didn’t really grab me, but The Holy Mountain left me in awe. Such a strange sometimes disturbing film, yet beautiful at times. Amazing score too.
Reading Naked Lunch and it’s cadre of Mugwumps, deviants, young and old, men and women. I keep thinking about Cronenberg’s film version, and how it’s been several years since I rented the Criterion dvd and saw it. Seeing the Mugwumps before I had read about them, I’m surprised at how much they’re almost exactly like how Burrows wrote them.
I’ve really enjoyed reading this bizarre book. It’s truly brilliant.
Rene’s song of the day: “Psychedelic Weapons” by Alejandro Jodorowsky.
Thanks for reading my blog and see you next time!
The Matrix is a cultural milestone still talked about to this day but, it’s creators, the Wachowskis’ later work Jupiter Ascending is often overlooked. Like Nicolas Cage’s National Treasure this film takes … Continue reading — By Sushi-X
