Everybody seemed to hate Lars von Trier’s Antichrist at Cannes; while Charlotte Gainsbourg won Best Actress, but the jury also awarded the film an ‘anti-award’ for misogyny. Then the mood changed, and in the last couple of months – starting with the film being a hit in Denmark – it seems like people have been coming around. Roger Ebert was really impacted by it when he saw it at Toronto.
IFC bought the uncut version of Antichrist, which I’ll be seeing at Fantastic Fest in a few weeks. I can’t wait to check this movie out for myself, and the new trailer really highlights the film’s shocking nature. Plus it looks mind-blowingly gorgeous. The film opens in limited release October 23rd.
