Peter Berg recently talked to SCI FI Wire and let them know that he has some sequel ideas for his superhero flick Hancock. Why would we want a sequel to that (sadly profitable) mess? Not quite sure- while it started off with potential it quickly shits the bed, becoming one of the more average and predictable superhero films of recent memory. But Berg’s got some ideas for how to lift the story from its low point!
(Spoilers ahead for the movie’s horrible “twist”.)
So at the end of the film you find out that Will Smith’s character is actually from a race of Gods that were only mortal when they were close to their significant others, and it turned out that Jason Bateman’s wife Charlize Theron used to be his. They’re the only two left on the planet, which is why you don’t see people flying around throwing trains at each other on a daily basis. Hancock didn’t remember thanks to some convenient amnesia and is a little distressed to find out that his kryptonite is in the form of this irresistible South African.
But what if they weren’t not the only two left! OH MAN, TWIST! “There might be another god out there,” Berg told SCI FI Wire. “Might be another one.”
So what would a third mean for the situation? What would happen to their powers and sexual tension? It’s a funny proposition for a film that was originally going to be called Tonight He Comes (seriously). Still, it’s not going to happen anytime soon, as Berg says “We’re excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the
movie to be right. We don’t feel a burning imperative to go right back
into it.”
Glad to hear. Check SCI FI Wire for more details from the director.
