Just when the Farrelly Bros have their long awaited (and long feared) Three Stooges movie cast and ready to go, unusual choice Sean Penn dropped out, forever robbing us the vision of Benicio del Toro’s Moe roughing up the lawyer from Carlito’s Way. But now The Boston Globe is reporting that a new Larry has been found – Paul Giamatti will step into the role of the put-upon middle Stooge.
But there’s more trouble! The paper says that Jim Carrey, who had been gaining weight to play Curly, also quit. There’s no word on who will take that role. Production is due to start in the fall, so the Farrellys have to quickly start looking for a rotund funny type who can withstand saw blades to the skull. I would have cast Giamatti in that role, personally…
