17 AGAIN

Special Features

  • Nothing

17 Again comes to DVD
with nothing. The Blu-Ray gets some featurettes and immense video quality. But, the DVD gets nothing as news of Warner Brothers’ Blu-Ray push comes out. That’s a story for another time, but I’ll give you a little preview. Forced moratoriums on older titles to promote Blu-Ray alternatives.

Back to Zac Efron’s ability to surprise me. Efron holds his weight against Thomas Lennon and Leslie Mann. Sure, that doesn’t seem that hard. But, a lesser actor would’ve fallen into the same body-switch traps that plagued the other Freaky Friday clones. It’s entertaining, but not great. Still, it’s the kind of goofy film that Brad Pitt would’ve found himself in almost twenty years ago. Well, Pitt did shit like Johnny Suede and Cool World. If Warner Brothers feels like grabbing another pull-quote, I’ve got one for them. 17 Again is better than Cool World.

I LOVE YOU, MAN

Special Features

  • Featurettes
  • Extended / Deleted Scenes
  • Outtakes
  • Commentary

I Love You, Man is a predictable comedy that Viacom was probably expecting to make more cash than it did. Still, it’s a giant pile of predictable comedy shit that Paul Rudd and Jason Segel shouldn’t have had to wade through. Another thing that troubled me was seeing how Geddy Lee is starting to look like a transgendered Ozzy Osbourne impersonator. Screw this film for ruining my illusions about Rush. Also, the stuff with Lou Ferrigno was forced and they didn’t give the man the chance to really blossom. J. Jonah Jameson and the Weekend Update anchor were fun, though.

GIGANTIC

Special Features

  • Deleted and Alternate Scenes
  • Trailer
  • Still Gallery

Gigantic is yet another indie showcase for the awesomeness that is Zooey Deschanel. Paul Dano is the lead, but his maitress salesman character plays second fiddle to Harriett. Zooey Deschanel plays the same free-spirited role that she’s seemingly becoming typecasted in, but she holds her own against the likes of Asner, Dano and Goodman. The subplot about adopting a Chinese baby is forced, but the movie works around it.
