I must confess that by the time the 1998 limited series Whiteout, by Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber, had come out, I had long since stopped reading comics, so I never read it.  Luckily, I do continue to watch trailers, however, and IGN has the new reel for the film adaptation starring Kate Beckinsale, whom I’m sure many of us would gladly help keep warm at night given the opportunity.

Film concerns U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, who’s investigating a murder down in Antarctica’s McMurdo Station three days before the winter sets in.  It involves several stations, several bodies, and body parts freezing off.  And parts of this thing were coming off like…well…The Thing.  But my take on it is more Smilla meets Day After Tomorrow.  Of course Beckinsale gets all the notice for how she looks, but she can do some solid work in thrillers and pull off action well, and her American accent one of the best I’ve heard from a Brit.  Whiteout premieres September 11th.

Thanks to Brian for the tip.
