WATCHMEN: DIRECTOR’S CUT

Special Features

  •  Digital Copy
  •  Director’s Cut
  •  Featurettes
  •  Video Journals
  •  Music Video

Watchmen comes to DVD
with an amazing release that will make you feel bad when the Ultimate Edition comes out around Christmas. But, Warner Brothers needs your money. They’re still trying to sew shut that Speed Racer sized hole in their wallet. If you pick this up on Tuesday, you’ll get to see some more scenes and different takes. Plus, you’ll get to see more detail as Ozymandias gets coated in Lee Iacocca’s brain matter.

The
DVD offers up a digital copy, plus a music video from My Chemical Romance. There’s plenty of featurettes to cover every detail of the production. How did Jackie Earle Haley keep his mask so white and inkblotchy? How did Malin Akerman feel about getting railed on Archie? Why did Zach Snyder feel the need to overextend the physical violence? All these questions and more will be answered. But, if you want the real answers…wait for the Ultimate Edition.

CORALINE

Special Features

  • Featurettes
  • Deleted Scenes

Coraline is
a wonderful tale from the mind of Neil Gaiman. You’ll be familiar with Gaiman’s previous work. That is if you can wrestle it away from the clutches of the Gothic Lolitas that haunt the corridors of your local Barnes and Nobles. A clever tale about a clever girl learning that she might just have got more than she ever expected. If that wasn’t enough, there’s macabre stop-motion and dark scenes to entice any gloomy twelve year old.

PUSHING DAISIES: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON

Special Features

  • Commentaries
  • Featurettes

Pushing Daisies is a special show that received the treatment that America shows special shows. It got cancelled, as ABC shuffled it around the Fall 2008 schedule. That’s not to say that the first season really knocked the ratings door down. It’s just that ABC didn’t really try to pair it with any other programs of a similar nature. But, what’s similar to a fairy tale about a piemaker fighting his deadly touch to be with the woman he loves.

Light-hearted fantasy rarely finds a proper venue anymore and I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised that it failed here. But, WB has brought the season together along with three unaired episodes for your viewing pleasure. Sure, they were aired in the summer…but, that doesn’t count. What does count are the excellent commentaries and the special final look at Ned and Chuck.

OBSESSIVE DVD NERDS, I BESEECH YOU!

The
Chewer Nation likes to make long-winded lists that can turn even the
strongest mind into an Autistic pile of mush. Therefore, I beseech you
to make a list for the month of July! I want to see the worst DVDs ever
made. List them, provide reasons and do what you will. I know that I
can harness your collective mental spark plugs to inspire some modicum
of film discussion.

I’ll start.

1) Colossus: The Forbin Project
2) The Enforcer – Dragon Dynasty  (via Reggie-Wanker)
3) Superman II – The Richard Donner Cut  (via Hammerhead)
4) Wiseguy Season 3 – Part I   (via Phil)

I’ve been working my way through the old Wiseguy series, and the
company that released the series put out four sets. The final set is
the first half of season 3; one episode has an inverted field problem,
so the entire episode strobes and flickers, from beginning to end. Two
episodes have the commentary embedded on the audio, with no option to
just watch the show. Then the company folded, never bothering to
release the second half of that season.

Post your videos, your links, your essays, your mad ramblings on the CHUD message board.
