Ryuhei Kitamura will be forever in my heart.

Like many others, I was turned on to the director’s first film Versus by old school Creature Corner vets Johnny Butane and Ryan Rotten, and immediately knew that this director was one to watch. His style has grown by leaps and bounds over the years, and although Midnight Meat Train got raped by Lionsgate (it’s actually a really fun film!) he’s not stopping just yet.

Shock To You Drop has exclusively announced Kitamura’s next project, Teratoma. A teratoma is a tumor much like Timothy Hutton faced in The Dark Half– one that can contain tissue and organs such as hair teeth and limbs. Do a google image search if you want to be horrified.

Kitamura is directing from a script by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller, the guys behind Giallo. The film will be a joint production between JAZ films and Neo Art & Logic

“Teratoma is The Fly meets Rosemary’s Baby,” says [Joel] Soisson of Neo Art & Logic.

Awesome. We can always use more body horror and since Cronenberg is on his little crime kick we’ve got nowhere else left to turn. Midnight Meat Train showed that Kitamura’s awesome visual style works just as well over here so we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye (tumor) on this one.
