In case you’re somehow not aware, Mystery Science Theater 3000’s Mike Nelson has been running Rifftrax for the past few years, making audio tracks for everything from Roadhouse to Jurassic Park to Twilight. They’re all pretty damn hysterical, and while some of them reunite him with his former coworkers Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, they’ve also had guest hosts like Weird Al Yankovic Fred Willard, and Neil Patrick Harris. Check out some samples on the site if you haven’t already.
And now they’re going to play in theaters!
Today Rifftrax announced a special live event that will have original MST3k cast members Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Crow) riffing on the most famous bad movie of all time- Plan 9 From Outer Space. They’re going to be doing it live from Belcourt Theater in Nashville, TN and it will be broadcast into theaters around the country. Before the film they’ll also be riffing on a brand new short film.
It’s one night only! It will be playing live on Thursday, August 20th at 8PM ET/ 7PM CT/ 6PM MT/ Tape Delayed at 8PM PT. To find out if it’s playing near you, head on over to this site and plug in your zip code in the sidebar on the right side of the screen. They’ve also promised attendees downloadable goodies like a short film, a song by the “RiffTones”, and an autographed digital photo, so you can put it on your desktop and be the geekiest person you know!
Definitely won’t miss this myself. You just know the crowd’s going to be perfect for it, and if you can’t make it to a live event, this is the next best thing.
