Today marks the first day that Michael Jackson has been stiff without a five year old boy nearby.

While his body is taking a helicopter ride to the morgue right now, everyone’s clamoring for everything Jackson today- the top four trends on Twitter are about him, music stations are playing nothing but his work, MTV is actually showing music videos. But for me, I couldn’t stop thinking about rewatching Moonwalker.

When I was a kid, I would watch Moonwalker non-stop with my cousin. I’m not sure why, it’s just something you did. For some reason, the below scene is something that always stuck with me, and creeped me out beyond belief, more than any horror movie I saw at the time. Oh, you fucked-up claymation.

Strange that it’s still not out on dvd… but I’m sure people are trying to figure out a way right now.

On a more serious note, Drew McWeeney of Hitfix has an article up about an encounter with Jackson that humanizes him more than anything I’ve ever seen. Definitely a great read.

I can’t say I’m sad that he’s dead- the man’s best years were far behind him, and my sole interest in him nowadays was as a circus freak (you have seen the Neverland Ranch auction pics that Human Giant’s Paul Scheer put up, right?), but it definitely marks the end of an era.

Still, if you cried yesterday, I just want you to know I’m laughing at you. Oh, how I’m laughing. I could fucking live off those tears.
