Ryan Reynolds is making a good career choice. After a number of romcom roles and with a superhero movie looming on his horizon, he’s decided to make an indie movie that might actually give him a chance to act. Sure, Reynolds will probably never win an Oscar, but he can do some acting, and Buried may give him the chance to show that.

In the film Reynolds will play a contractor in Iraq who gets kidnapped and buried alive. He has only a cell phone, a knife and a candle (I would think the cell phone would be pretty much enough to rescue him, but I guess there’s an element I don’t know). The nature of the film means that it’s going to be an awful lot of Ryan Reynolds on screen all by himself.

The film is being shot in Spain and is being directed by Rodrigo Cortes whose The Contestant I haven’t seen but about which I have heard good things.
