Oh what a coup for a first time feature writer – to sell a script to Imagine Entertainment and have Ron Howard himself attached to direct. It would, of course, be a more impressive coup if that writer wasn’t Howard’s daughter.

Bryce Dallas Howard has sold the screenplay The Originals to her dad’s company and he’s looking to helm it (a much, much less creepy father/daughter collaboration than, say, that between Dario and Asia Argento). The script is ‘an ensemble film about a group of twentysomethings who reconvene for a weekend in New York after learning that the teacher who shaped their childhoods has fallen into a mysterious coma.’

Well, that sounds like doo doo. And not all that original, really, unless the story goes totally nuts places after that synopsis ends.

Most interesting (to me) in the Hollywood Reporter article on this is the fact that it looks like Ron Howard’s next film is going to be Collosus, the remake of Collosus: The Forbin Project. That’s been puttering around for two years and I was really hoping it would go away. No luck!
