LAND OF THE LOST: THE COMPLETE SERIES

Special Features

  • Retrospective featurette

The Land of the Lost

is finally coming back to DVD after being Out of Print for years. This release is almost a repackage of the three previous season releases. But, you now have the chance to pick up the release in different packaging. You can choose the gatefold release or the Collector’s Edition lunchbox. I don’t recommend the lunchbox, as the discs are packaged inside in paper sleeves. Smooth move, Universal.

POWDER BLUE

Special Features

  • Commentary
  • Featurette
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Still Gallery

Powder Blue
is a smart urban tale about four lives comparing together in a serious of smart urbane vignettes. Listen, Hollywood. If you aren’t Robert Altman or Raymond Carver, leave that shit alone. I don’t how many films I’ve got to watch about the dregs of humanity meeting the upper crust, as they come to learn that nobody is that different from someone else. The only plus is that Jessica Biel is a stripper in this. Sure, she’s got a man ass…but, it works. Elijah Wood, Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta and Biel’s tits also star.

DESIGNING WOMEN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON

Special Features

  • Reunion featurette

Designing Women
is the show that showed America what The Golden Girls was lacking. The spark of being a Sugarbaker hasn’t been captured since the show departed in the early 1990s. Sure, you had Hearts Afire from the same creative team. But, it was a paper-thin comparison. Season 1 is a basic getting to know everyone that spotlights the four ladies that makes up Sugarbaker Interiors. Shout Factory has done an amazing job cleaning up the prints that Sony owns and making a set that really pops. The sad thing is that Shout tends to take a bit between season releases, so I don’t know how long it’ll be before Season 2 or even Season 7 drops.

THE PERSONAL CRITERION COLLECTION

I had an idea for a subset column for The Special Edition. Many people
want to have Criterions in their collection. Many people pretend to
like half of the films that Criterion releases. But, what about those
people that honestly can’t be bothered to be told what to like. What
about them?

That’s why I want to test the waters and see if
this floats. I want the readers of CHUD and this dear article to head
to the Boards and nominate their Personal Criterion Collection entry. I
want to see explanations and not just mindless listing of entries,
people.

All titles eligible are previously released DVD/BR media that you believe to be essential/necessary to the collection of the Home Entertainment enthusiast.

90) The Last Detail. (click on the box art to buy this at Amazon)

Serving as sort of a quintessential comedy of the auteur era, The Last
Detail reflects the nation’s attitude toward the military following
Vietnam, one of mocking dismissal of its arbitrary rules and
institutions . It’s also one of the best examples of male platonic
relationships put to film, and its unhappy ending makes one nostalgic
for a time when Hollywood had the balls not to appeal to the lowest
common denominator.
