For the final one-sheet for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I like that Warner Brothers is continuing the design notion used in the slate of character posters: obscure the title. How many franchises are more universally recognizable at this point than Potter?

Anyone who would possibly pay ten bucks to see this movie knows exactly what it is based on character recognition alone. No need to devote a chunk of poster real estate to the title. Instead it’s a big texture in the background, half-invisible and yet still dominant.

In many ways this is a truly ugly design that craps all over any notion I hold of artful one-sheet composition. But it’s trying something vaguely different, and I can at least appreciate that.

MSN has the full poster, should you care to investigate in full.
