Holy shit, Lynne Ramsay. The director of Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar (and nothing else! No films since 2002! But she still made the Guardian’s list of the 40 best working directors in 2007!) is finally back with a new movie in the works, We Need to Talk About Kevin. Actually, she’s had the movie, based on the novel by Lionel Shriver, in the works since 2006, after she fell off The Lovely Bones, but now it looks like Kevin is actually happening, as Tilda Swinton has been cast in the lead role.

I haven’t read the book, which won some awards, but this synopsis from the Hollywood Reporter kills me. It goes from mild to wild SO FAST:

‘[T]he story of a
smart, educated New York mother who does her best to raise a son
she never wanted in the first place. He turns out to be extremely
difficult and is at the center of the woman’s marital breakdown
before going on a killing spree at his high school with a
crossbow.’

He turns out to be extremely difficult… before going on a crossbow massacre. Yeah, that’s extremely difficult for sure.
