Once upon a time, MTV ran a sketch comedy show called The State. It was pretty damn funny, and due to persistent commercial inavailablity has been elevated to near-mythological status. One planned DVD release after another has been scuttled or stillborn, leaving comics like Michael Ian Black, David Wain, Michael Showalter, Kerri Kenney, Joe Lo Truglio and more to make new funny stuff rather than kicking back while royalties from MTV pour in.
Well, the cast and creators can all quit their jobs, becuase The State is finally coming to DVD. Really. No bullshit this time. There’s a professional website, a video clip on YouTube and everything announcing a July 14 release date. Five discs. Commentary on every episode. He happy. Be thrilled.
