Hounddog is a film that can’t live up to the controversy. So many people made a big deal out of Dakota Fanning get slammed. It’s non-descript and leaves one wondering what the big hubbub was about. Brooke Shields did a hell of a lot more in Pretty Baby. Now, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone under 21 that has heard of the flick.
But, if you’re a fundie looking for a film to brow beat, then you can’t go wrong here. Only two minutes of carefully shot rape adds up to enough controversy to last the rest of your eternal life. Heaven forbid the fact that no one’s probably going to see the flick. Hell, the flick made less than 100,000 dollars in its theatrical run. But, don’t let those facts keep you up at night. Just rememeber that there are sick people out there. Very sick.

Religulous is a film that wants to be relevant in the worst way. Having trouble finding a release date due to extra shooting and the WGA strike, Maher and company sat on the film for awhile. What we get is a diatribe from a man who’s afraid to ever given a definite answer. He won’t accept any position offered to him and he won’t offer anything up. Combating willful ignorance with more of the same doesn’t add up to much. The special features included on the set include a commentary with director Larry Charles and Bill Maher. The big deal about the release are the monologues from around the world that extended upon the best interviews in the film.

The Midnight Meat Train didn’t do shit when it hit theaters in the spring of 2008. But, that’s what happens when you studio seems dedicated to taking a shit all over American Horror. Who the fuck came up with the plan to dump one of Barker’s adaptations in a semi-planned dollar house circuit run? Ryuhei Kitamura deserved more than this limp-wristed slap to the face. The DVD sports special features that are almost identical to the day and date Blu-Ray release. The biggies on the set include the Barker commentary and the profile on Mahogany. If you felt like Vinnie Jones’ character needed more fleshing out, then make sure to check out Mahogany’s Tale upon finishing the feature.
