Black Dynamite, the blaxploitation machine filmed in state of the art Anamorphic DuoVision and featuring Michael Jai White as the hero that drives a five-thousand dollar car and wears a hundred dollar suit, has been picked up by Sony.
The sale happened overnight after the film’s late Sunday premiere at Sundance. Sony will spend a boat-load of cash to promote the film when it opens later this year, and THR says the studio sees it as the flagship of a potential franchise. Uh-oh. It’s one thing to see the Sony logo slapped on a film that already has Black Dynamite shushing three enthusiastic bedded women so as not to wake the rest of the bitches, but will the studio back another film truly in the same vein?
