Any time a film is shuffled many months back in the schedule there’s the temptation to view the move as a damning one. But April was a terrible time for Universal to open The Wolfman, and while I’d rather see it bow in October, the new November 6, 2009 date isn’t a bad deal at all. That actually makes me think the movie might be worth a damn — at the very least, the studio has decided to market it as a real horror picture.

Much more appropriate for the April date is Fast and Furious, Justin Lin’s continuation of Paul Walker’s third-best association. That’s a pull forward from June. Lin’s movie will likely have a much better chance in the spring, and it won’t be competing with Universal’s own Land of the Lost, which opens June 5.

Meanwhile, Ridley Scott’s Nottingham has, appropriately, been pushed back to a TBA 2010 neutral zone. No surprise there, and that gives us loads of time to stretch out stories discussing which characters are which.
