Way back in July, CHUD was the first site to break the scoop that Ridley Scott’s Nottingham will present a version of the Robin Hood legend where Hood is the Sheriff of Nottingham. Since then there’s been much speculation about the matter, including the very popular question ‘Wait, how the fuck does this work?’

Well, fret not: Robin Hood isn’t going Sybill on us in this film. Brian Grazer gives MTV News the lowdown on how this dual identity thing works: “The two role confusion is that what Robin Hood does is he sees
Nottingham in battle very early in the movie and Nottingham dies. And
Robin Hood takes over the identity of Nottingham. Thats how it plays
out.”

I’m not entirely certain that this actually clears things up (and I guess it means we won’t see a nice at heart Sheriff creating Robin Hood in order to go against the king’s wishes and help the poor local people, a concept I quite liked), but that’s from the producer’s mouth.
