A month ago Russ broke the word that Dan Akroyd had confirmed that Atari had picked up the troubled Ghostbusters video game and would be publishing it next. The game was originally supposed to hit this year but it’s been pushed back to next, a good thing from most reports. Not only will this give them more time to beef up the gameplay but it will tie in with the 25th anniversary (!) of the first flick.

And it’s finally official- a press release from Atari hit recently that shows Phil Harrison nearly weeing his pants in anticipation of all those units sold.

I’m sure you know the story behind this project, but for the uninitiated, it’s as close to a third film as we’re ever going to get. Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote the script for the game, and all four leads are contributing their voices and likenesses. Along with that Annie Potts is coming back as Janine, Brian Doyle-Murray playing the Mayor, and the immortal William Atherton retuning as pencil-neck Walter Peck. The story takes place two years after Ghostbusters 2, even though much
of the promotional material seems to be retreading stuff from the first
film.

Check the official site for a trailer and more info. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m excited forthis one… and even more excited that I won’t have to mess with my Atari 2600’s A-B switch to evade that Stay-Puft Marshmallow man.
