Yahoo has a new teaser poster for Watchmen, and I love it. I don’t even know why, exactly, as the tagline is still a bit awkward, and there’s nothing terribly dynamic about Rorschach’s pose. I think it’s that the art looks like the cover from an old sci-fi paperback; something that draws equally from Dick and, in my dreams, Dashiell Hammett. Or maybe it’s that this could be production art for an alternate universe version of Taxi Driver. (Or Water Power!)

These images are coming fast, and well they should be. There’s another trailer that should debut with Quantum of Solace next week, according to Dark Horizons. That will really help raise awareness, as anyone who might like Watchmen but didn’t see The Dark Knight is liable to see Bond.

The Dark Horizons piece is interesting, too. Director Zack Snyder reiterates the 2:42 runtime of the theatrical cut, and mentions a three-hour director’s cut for DVD, solidifying what we’ve heard before. He also downplays the movie’s action quota, saying that the scenes shown in the 25-minute preview are ‘among the only’ big action scenes in the film. He also talks about ‘the squid problem’ and laughs about online concerns, saying what we should really be worried about are things like “shooting the pregnant woman, ‘God is real and he’s American’, whether THAT’s in the movie. That’s my point of view, maybe I’m crazy.”

That’s a good point that I haven’t seen raised. Everyone is concerned about the big bigs, like the rape of Sally Jupiter and the squid, but there are many more small, potentially volatile bits that would be notable omissions. So how about it, Zack? Are those two bits you mentioned in the film?
