While there is no shortage of ideas on where to send Warwick Davis’ Leprechaun character for his next straight-to-DVD adventure, there hasn’t been squat from Lionsgate as far as another film getting made. Of course, rumors about a film series that has already been to outer space, Vegas, and the ‘hood are always fun. It wasn’t too long ago that Darren Lynn Bousman expressed a willingness to take the series into the wild west.

According to Shock Till You Drop, Lionsgate is taking the Leprechaun world and putting it in the hands of Bluewater Publishing for a comic book series that will focus not on Warwick Davis’ character, but one of his brethren.

“Working with Lionsgate on this end is like coming back full circle for me. I worked on the marketing for Leprechaun 4: In Space,” says Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis. “I loved this little character and have always wanted to do something with him. As for Warlock, this was another cult film that I enjoyed, so having this opportunity to partner with Lionsgate again is going to great.”

What’s interesting is that the synopsis for the Leprechaun story sounds like something suited for a comic book rather than taking another stupid locale like outer space and stretching a 90-minute movie plot across twelve issues.

Leprechaun is being written by Zach Hunchar, who previously worked on Insane Jane for Bluewater.

The plot, according to Shock Till You Drop, is as follows:

The series is the tale of Lubdan, the king and sole survivor of the Leprechaun. The last of the Leprechauns! A treasure dealer stumbles across his pot of gold and steals it. In this modern age, he finds buyers all over the planet through on-line auctions. Lubdan finds the thief after the gold is shipped to humans across the globe. Unbeknownst to Lubdan, the Cluracan, a war-like race intent on genocide, helped the human find the gold.

Warwick Davis must be pissed. For more on this and the Warlock book that Bluewater will also publish, check out the full story right here.
