Before she’s set to return to the unholiness known as the Meet The Fockers franchise, Teri Polo has signed onto Joe Dante’s upcoming The Hole, says the Hollywood Reporter.  The film, written by Mark L. Smith (Vacancy), tells the story of a mother (Polo) who moves with her two teenage sons to a rural house that shows them their greatest fears when the family discovers a bottomless hole in the basement.

It would be truly lovely if this film could mark a return to real horror for Joe Dante, who’s been trolling the kid-friendly market the last decade or so, save for a stint on Masters of Horror.  Joining Polo in the cast so far is Haley Bennett (The Haunting of Molly Hartley).  This could be a departure for Polo, who has dabbled a little in horror, with appearances on Tales From the Crypt and the Peter Horton series, Brimstone, but has largely run in the drama and comedy circles.

The film will be shot in 3-D and begins production in December.
