Hot off of his success in Get Smart and continuing success in The Office, Steve Carell has lined up a starring role in the comedy The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard for Media Rights Capital (which sounds like the next bank that’s going to fail strangely enough).  As Variety reports, Brigadier Gerard is both the bravest soldier in Napoleon’s army…as well as the stupidest.  He stays with the crazy little guy from his greatest victories through his final defeat and permanent exile.

The script was written by John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, both of Blades of Glory and King of the Hill, and will be produced by Altschuler and executive produced by fellow Hill alum Mike Judge.  Carell is also planning in starring in the Get Smart sequel next year, as well as the comedy Date Night with Tina Fey.

I thought Carell was fine in Smart, but that the story just let him down miserably.  Even when he doesn’t have the right material he can be entertaining, and when he does have the right material, he’s golden.  Let’s hope that he gets the chance to show some luster in this one.
