I always have high expectations for the next Quentin Tarantino movie. He’s one of my top five favorite working directors, and he has yet to disappoint me. But, my God. This trailer for The Hateful Eight has left my jaw detached and rolling across the floor. This looks astonishing. Not only is Tarantino’s trademark wit and flare for dialogue present, but his use of 70mm film has delivered what is unarguably his most polished looking picture ever. I could stare into any frame of this trailer for hours.

But, don’t let the visual mastery on display distract you from what looks to be a film littered with fantastic performances. Tarantino already proved with Django Unchained that Samuel L. Jackson can still be one of our greatest living actors, and it looks like The Hateful Eight will further reinforce that argument. Jennifer Jason Leigh looks like a riot (her little mock hanging bit had me laughing a little too heartily), and the small bits we get of Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, Bruce Dern and some other people that I’m too lazy to pinpoint all look like a blast.

Oh, and in case you forgot: Kurt. Russell. The once and future Snake Plissken is headlining this beast, and he looks damn good doing it. His mustache alone should win an honorary Oscar.

The Hateful Eight gets a limited release on Christmas, and then expands everywhere on January 8th. If you have ever complained about the glut of superhero films, unoriginal properties, or boringly safe movies that don’t take any risks, I better see you flooding our comments and forums after this movie comes out. This is going to be one we’ll shame you for missing.
