I don’t think there are many superheroes I’m more apathetic about than Green Lantern. While I don’t share Devin’s outright scorn for the guy, I’ve never been fired up by any version of the character except Guy Gardener. And Guy was only alright when Giffen, DeMatteis and Maguire pit his childish self-aggrandizing against Batman in 1987.

So when Latino Review’s El Mayimbe, who is often perfectly on the money in matters like this, reports that WB wants Ryan Gosling to be Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern flick…well, it’s not Gosling’s fault that I don’t feel that Robert Downey, Jr. = Tony Stark ‘click’.

In truth, though, Gosling would be a solid choice for the role. He’s under-exposed for the half of the popular consciousness that doesn’t have ovaries and has the chops necessary to humanize Jordan enough to carry the movie between action sequences.

Despite LR’s good sources, this is still just a potential deal in the making, not something that has been formally offered to the actor. But if the studio wants it and can point to the outrageous success of other comic book properties, what’s the chance that Gosling could resist if the offer did go out?
