Of all blockbuster movies of 2015, Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland continues to look like an underdog. While the world is anticipating safe franchise titles such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Terminator: Genisys, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Disney’s third Disneyland theme park attraction adaptation after Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion has pretty much failed to drum up any interest. A girl touches a T-shaped pin and experiences what looks like a live action version of the Jetsons city. George Clooney hangs around, looking baffled. That’s what we got so far, and yeah, it takes more than that to take away attention from a guy riding into battle with his raptor pals.

Well, as the movie cost a lot and comes out next month, Disney is desperately trying again with another trailer. And you know what? This one might finally pique your interest. Not in a big way, just a little. Again, this features said girl gazing at said futuristic city, but it also has mechs fighting each other. Chopped-off limbs. Killer androids with laser guns.

Resident Evil laser nets. Bath tub jets. It’s still light on story and we don’t get to know about Hugh Laurie’s role in all of this (he’s probably the villain), but now we finally have a basic understanding of what is going on. Clooney is an inventor named Walker. During one of his travels to parallel dimension world Tomorrowland he is spotted by young Casey who just accidentally went there by touching the T-shaped pin. Someone doesn’t want them to get there anymore, so they’re hunted by what seems to be the Halloween III: Season of the Witch androids. If only it came with a Carpenter score.

I’m still not sure whether it’ll be enough to warrant a night out, but this may finally put the movie on your general Letterboxd watchlist. You never know – it may be as good as The Giver and I Am Number Four! Tomorrowland hits theatres May 22.
