That’s a great poster. That’s actually a classic poster, if you ask me. And coming on the heels of the poistive Zack and Miri Make a Porno buzz from Toronto, this poster says to me ‘Kevin Smith is coming back.’

Wouldn’t that be amazing? Wouldn’t it be nice to know that Clerks II was the nadir, that the cynical, going back to the well vibe of that movie marked a turning point where, having bottomed out, Kevin Smith had nowhere to go but up?

This design came about after the MPAA rejected the Apatow knock-off oral sex poster, which was funny but nowhere near as delightful and eye-catching as this one. Kudos to Smith and the marketing folks at TWC for outdoing themselves.

I’ll miss Zack and Miri Make a Porno at Fantastic Fest, and this will mark the first time in a long time that I’m bummed to be missing a Kevin Smith film. I know that this makes me a fairweather friend, but I’d really like to be able to get back into the position of saying nice things about Smith’s work rather than grumbling about his lack of growth and lack of chops.
