Harmonix just sent out a press release announcing a software update for Rock Band which adds the promised ‘export’ tab to the game’s options menu. For 400 MS points ($4.99) you can now spend about eight minutes watching your 360 (PS3 update coming sometime soon) export 55 songs from the Rock Band game disc for use not only in Rock Band 2, but in “future Rock Band titles”.

A few other fixes were made in the update, too. As HmxSean says:

1) …it updates RB1 so you will still be able to purchase DLC from the Rock Band store. Downloading this patch is required if you’d still like to do that.
2) Lowers the threshold on gold stars making it easier/possible to gold star songs. This won’t affect leaderboards as it only affects the threshold, not the score.
3) Lately a few songs have had unhittable notes. This should be fixed now.

Meditate on that last point for a moment.

Ok, yeah, that’s great, but what about the songs? A few songs didn’t make the cut: ‘Paranoid’, ‘Run to the Hills’ and ‘Enter Sandman’. If you’re in Europe, ‘Through the Monsoon’ is out. Here’s the list of songs you can export, and keep in mind that you can go to the System>Memory>Hard Drive>Games tab in the 360 dashboard to delete any you don’t want to play ever again. (And since the license is a one-time thing, you should be able to re-export should the desire to play ‘Creep’ arise once more.)
