“I’m just be honest. It’s my first time. I ain’t gonna touch you, nothing like that. I have a wife, we’re happy…We’re not happy, but it’s cool.”

That’s Craig Robinson, coffee slinger turned porn producer, interviewing a potential ‘actress’ in the new red band trailer for Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I’ve watched this thing about six times now, mostly out of pure shock that I’m suddenly dying to see it. That’s a first for me and a Kevin Smith movie since Clerks. Some of that is due to the fact that the trailer is very eager to put Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks into the now-familiar context of Judd Apatow’s movies (Kevin Smith’s name doesn’t even appear until the end credit list) but that being the case, there’s something here that looks like Smith might have taken a couple steps forward, poo and fuck jokes aside. If Robinson and the rest of the cast can hit a lot more of Smith’s dialogue like that line quoted above hits, I’ll be happy. And there’s sure to be loads of dialogue; just listen to how choppily this trailer is cut to get around Smith’s trademark verbosity.

(Perhaps more crucial: will I be able to watch the ‘porn’ scenes in Z&M without constantly thinking back to the Coen Brothers’ masterful fauxporn in Lebowski?)

Head over to Rotten Tomatoes to see the trailer. It’s behind an age gate, but I’m sure the young’uns will think of something. And by all means, keep watching for the clips from IGN’s spot on the Z&M press line at Comic Con, because porn star Katie Morgan is either astoundingly coked up or slipped in a quick gang bang with the Care Bears right before the interview. ‘Bubbly’ doesn’t begin to cover it.
