I’ve read a lot of horror books, and the details of the older ones become a bit fuzzier every time I read a new one. But one little detail I remember from the orginal Shining was Jack Nicholson’s character and his friend hit a bike while driving home after drinking, but after getting out and worriedly searching around were unable to find the body. I guess just that thought of drunkenly hitting someone with your car was scarier to me than anything else in the book. Though one other detail I remember was the use of a croquet mallet instead of an axe. That’s just awesome.
