Jan Svankmajer’s (Little Otik) stop motion work is all over this, not just in the peculiar aesthetic, but in the fairy tale nature of the story being told. The great thing about fairy tales is that they don’t have to make rational, waking life sense. They can operate on the same kind of conclusions your mind makes while you’re dreaming, filling in strange gaps along the way. And at just three minutes, this short isn’t interested in traditional morals or establishing character. It just wants to spook you.

Enjoy.
