Ah, the subtitle. You don’t have to have a subtitle on your first movie in a franchise, but it helps. It’s your way of saying ‘We’re in this for the long haul. So much so that we want to help you differentiate between the first movie and the sixth by giving each a helpful subtitle.’
And so the subtitle for GI Joe is the uninspiring Rise of Cobra, which means that right about now geeks on the internet have begun referring to the movie as GJ:ROC. Or maybe just ROC. The kids today, they love their acronyms.
