In the days leading up to the theatrical release for 30 Days of Night, FEARnet unveiled a series of shorts that expanded a brief moment from the graphic novel taking place in New Orleans. 30 Days of Night: Blood Trails takes the kind of pointless exposition that would have made 30 Days of Night a disaster and drags it out across seven short episodes. It has vampire hunters, heroin junkies looking for a way to a better life, a wise-cracking fat guy who is quick with the nipple jokes, and an overall need to explain things that take away from the mystique surrounding the vampires– like the fact that they used the Internet to coordinate their descent on the small Alaskan town of Barrow.
Now FEARnet is announcing an upcoming sequel to the mini-series that will continue the adventures of ex-junkie George while introducing new and exciting characters. Among them are Nick Maguire, a detective with a missing sister and a name that sounds like it was made up by a webisode writer.
Shawnee Smith, known for her role in the Saw films, has a keen eye for great material and quickly seized the opportunity to be seen across the Internet that eludes so many young women. The series will also include cameo appearances by Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) and Ted Raimi.
30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust is set to premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con in July before debuting on the really small-screen courtesy of FEARnet.
