Though I have the utmost respect for the fellas over at the MTV Movies Blog, Katharine McPhee probably has as good a chance to play a talking cat as she does the late, great Janis Joplin. That said, any excuse to run the photo to your right…

Portraying the hard-living rock-and-roll legend has fascinated the likes of Brittany Murphy (there’s apparently a killer audition tape of her performing “Me and Bobby McGee” floating around Hollywood), Renee Zellweger, Pink and, most recently, Zooey Deschanel, but financing for the less-than-inspiring tale has proved elusive. Joss Stone would seem to be the obvious choice to play Janis, but who knows if she can act? Katharine McPhee might have some acting chops (I mean, only the best of the best went before the cameras in The House Bunny), but, as she admits to MTV’s Shawn Adler, she doesn’t sound a thing like Joplin.

So why does she want the role? Quoth the McPheever: “I see myself as more of a serious, dramatic person – kinda like George S. Patton with a rack.”

You’ll get to ogle these attributes August 22nd when The House Bunny (starring the excruciatingly adorable Anna Faris) hits theaters.
