With all the noise coming out of Cannes right now, I’ve been shocked that we hadn’t yet seen an image from John Hillcoat’s adaptation of The Road, due in November. Now Row Three has a pic (apparently scanned from a magazine) of Viggo Mortensen (as The Man) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (as The Boy) and it’s exactly what you’d expect/hope. In other words, the pair looks terrible. Smit-McPhee in particular has a haunted look that I like a lot.
The Road is a Dimension flick adapting Cormac McCarthy’s novel about a man and his son traveling through an ashen post-apocalyptic landscape. Charlize Theron, Garret Dillahunt and Robert Duvall are also in the cast; I can’t wait to see Dillahunt as a crazy flesh-eating member of a road gang.
The Matrix is a cultural milestone still talked about to this day but, it’s creators, the Wachowskis’ later work Jupiter Ascending is often overlooked.
